Dinajpur M Abdur Rahim Medical College Suspends 39 Students Over Criminal Allegations

2024-08-31  Irfan Malik

Dinajpur M Abdur Rahim Medical College has suspended 39 students across various batches following allegations of serious criminal activities, including attempted murder, abuse of fellow students, and other offenses. The decision was made during a meeting on Thursday, and a notice signed by the college's principal, AFM Nurullah, was issued to announce the suspension.

The notice stated that these students have been banned from the campus and dormitories pending a final decision and the findings of an investigation committee. The students may also be required to appear before the committee on Thursday if necessary.

According to sources from the college, the accused students are reportedly linked to the Chhatra League and were allegedly involved in establishing dominance in the residential halls through intimidation and physical abuse. Victims of these incidents have complained about ragging and harassment, with many claims going unaddressed due to political influence.

Principal AFM Nurullah confirmed to the media that 11 written complaints were filed against these students. Based on preliminary investigations, they have been temporarily suspended. To further probe the matter, a five-member investigation committee, led by Associate Professor of Medicine Dr. Sahab Ahmed, has been formed. The committee is expected to submit its report within seven working days, after which a final decision will be made.

The administration's swift action comes in response to growing concerns about safety and discipline within the college, aiming to restore a secure and conducive environment for learning.
