Professor Abdur Rob Khan Appointed as Acting Vice-Chancellor of North South University

Professor Abdur Rob Khan, an educationist, has been appointed acting vice-chancellor of North South University with immediate effect. Prof. Khan was the treasurer at the university until the new appointment.

The Board of Trustees at NSU appointed him acting vice chancellor in an emergency board meeting on August 28. Continuity in the university administration is the board's decision until there is a search for a regular vice chancellor.
 

About Professor Abdur Rob Khan  
Dr. Abdur Rob Khan is an internationally distinguished academic and researcher with a wide-ranging experience in the fields of international relations, security studies, and political science. He did his Ph.D. in International Relations from the University of Kent at Canterbury (UKC), UK, specialized in conflict studies and regional politics. He also pursued a post-doctoral fellowship as a Senior Fulbright Fellow at the University of Pennsylvania, UPenn, USA.

Dr. Khan has been a full-time faculty at North South University and Professor and Chair of the Department of Political Science and Sociology (PSS). He joined NSU in May 2009 as Associate Professor and was promoted to the rank of Professor in January 2013. Along with teaching, he has served as the Treasurer of the university, managing its financial and administrative affairs.

Prior to coming to NSU, Dr. Khan served for more than 15 years as Research Director at the Bangladesh Institute of International and Strategic Studies. While at BIISS, his research dealt with non-traditional security issues: human security, terrorism, and regional conflicts. He has published extensively on these topics through articles in professional journals, book chapters, and edited volumes. His publications include important works such as "National Security of Bangladesh: A Comprehensive Approach" and "Human Security in South Asia: Exploring Relevant Issues."

Academic and Research Contributions  
Dr. Khan has an illustrious academic and research background, comprising teaching at both undergraduate and graduate levels. In NSU, he has taught International Relations, China Studies, Global Security Perspectives, Country Risk Analysis, and International Business. His expertise also extends into the non-traditional studies of security, wherein he has developed holistic approaches toward regional and global security challenges.

Some of his publications include:

  • "Intelligence and Human Security: A Bangladesh Perspective" in Intelligence, National Security and Foreign Policy: A South Asian Narrative.
  • "CHT Regional Council: Regional Autonomy with Unitary System of Bangladesh" in South Asia Nation Building and Federalism.
  • "Global Security: Trends and Issues," published in the BIISS Journal.

Apart from the trophies that have marked his career, Dr. Khan received a Commonwealth Scholarship for his Ph.D. work and a Senior Fulbright Fellowship for post-doctoral research. He has held various visiting fellowships at several international institutions including the Strategic and Defence Studies Centre (SDSC) at the Australian National University (ANU).
